SEDRO-WOOLEY, WA - Miculek wins! When most people hear that they assume it refers to the legendary wheel-gunner Jerry Miculek whose prowess with a revolver is well known throughout the shooting world. However, at the 2008 Smith & Wesson Steel Shoot Series Louisiana Regional, the Miculek in question happens to be the revolver master's better half, Kay Clark-Miculek, who not only topped the entire field but set four new women's world records while doing it.
"Kay is the most accomplished woman shooter in the world having won numerous regional, national and world titles in several shooting disciplines. She has won the Steel Challenge an amazing six times and with her record breaking run on Outer Limits, Kay now holds all eight women's world records. Kay and Jerry are equally gifted shooters but this weekend Kay showed she is first among equals," said Michael Bane, host of Shooting Gallery on the Outdoor Channel and expert Steel Challenge observer.
Kay won the Open Division Speed Shooting and High Overall titles by 2.95 seconds taking the lead over husband Jerry on the stages Outer Limits and 5 To Go where his uncharacteristically poor runs gave Kay a 5.41 second advantage with three stages remaining. It was a deficit Jerry could not overcome.
Kay finished the match in 94.75 seconds and Jerry came in second with 97.70 seconds. Both set world records in the process with Kay beating her own women's world record on the stages Showdown, Speed Option, Smoke & Hope and beating two-time Steel Challenge champion Athena Lee's longstanding record on Outer Limits. Jerry set a new world record on Pendulum previously held by past Steel Challenge champion KC Eusebio.
Jerry Miculek is one of the most versatile shooters in the world. He has earned dozens of national and international titles with handguns, rifles and shotguns. What truly sets Jerry apart from the other top competitive shooters in the world is his amazing abilities with a revolver. Jerry holds four revolver speed shooting records and has won every major speed shooting revolver competition in the world.
